Tanzania: Gun violence affecting northern regions

Five people were shot dead and six others were injured when men wielding machine guns opened fire at a weeding party in a village in Mara region (Tanzania) on 4 March. IANSA member Peter Mcomalla said: “In recent months, gun violence has increased in Mara and Mwanza regions, where illicit firearms are widely available. Many of those guns come from neighbouring Kenya”. On 15 February, seventeen members of a family were killed with machetes in their homes and on 16 January, fourteen people were shot and killed by armed robbers. Read more here.
