Germany: Anti-weapons Action Group Petitions Parliament

185,000 people signed a petition to ban large-caliber handguns in Germany. The petition was presented to parliament on 18 June in Berlin by gun control campaign groups "Keine Mordwaffen als Sportwaffen" and Aktionsbündnis Amoklauf  Winnenden (AAW). The action came one year after parliament stiffened Germany's guns laws in response to the Winnenden massacre of March 2009, in which a 17-year-old killed 15 people. Campaign spokesman Roman Grafe said "German weapons laws abet killing sprees, as it does the uncounted murders in domestic circumstances".
