Costa Rica: Survivors demand stronger gun control

On 1 July, Nancy Chaverri, a school Principal in San Jose (Costa Rica) was shot in the head by a 17 year old student with a gun taken from his home. Nancy died on 11 July. Her cousin Alejandra Chaverri said, "Sometimes we feel these shootings are isolated problems of specific communities or countries. I thought the same before I saw Nancy fighting for her life". Together with other survivors of gun violence, Nancy's relatives are urging action to strengthen control and regulations on firearms.
