US: Campaigners and physicians sue over bill to ban doctors from asking about guns

In the US, the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence and an alliance of physicians have filed a lawsuit against a new law in the state of Florida that restricts doctors from talking to patients about the risks of a gun in the home. Dennis Henigan of the Brady Center said, “Just as paediatricians have long advised parents on the best ways to reduce the risks of harm to children from household poisons and riding bikes without safety helmets, they have advised them how to best protect their kids from the lethal danger of firearms. [This] is a gross violation of the right of physicians to provide preventative health care advice to families within the highly confidential confines of the physician-patient relationship”.
