Cote d'Ivoire: IANSA members call for ratification of the ECOWAS Convention on small arms

IANSA members in Cote d’Ivoire demanded that the Ivorian government ratify the ECOWAS Convention on small arms during a conference in Abidjan as part of the Global Week of Action against Gun Violence. Focusing on the theme "Youth and women: political engagement and culture of non-violence", the meeting was organised by RASALAO-Cote d’Ivoire, the Network of Journalists for Peace and Security and Amnesty International Cote d’Ivoire, in partnership with the National Commission on small arms. Victorine Wodié of the National Commission of Human Rights also participated and shared information from a report on the post-electoral crisis since January 2011, and highlighted that out of 577 observed cases of violence against women, 80% of these were committed by armed men.
