D.R. Congo: More than 150 women and boys raped at gunpoint

More than 150 women and boys were raped by rebels from the Mai Mai militia and Rwandan Hutu FDLR when they occupied the town of Luvungi in North Kivu. Margot Wallstrom, the UN Special Representative for sexual violence in conflict, will lead the UN's response to the attacks. In a statement she said sexual violence in the DRC is so grave and widespread that it requires priority attention from the international community. This echoes recommendations by the NGO Working Group on Women Peace and Security in their Monthly Action Points to the UN Security Council for May 2010.
