Venezuela: Victimisation poll leaked to the press

In Venezuela, a poll leaked to press last week revealed a rate of 75 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, making Venezuela one of the most violent countries in the world. According to the poll 8 out of 10 homicides were committed with guns. Civil society organisations in the country are pressing for comprehensive gun control and legislation to reduce insecurity. Cesar Marin, IANSA member in Caracas, said “We need to get weapons off the streets by giving citizens a clear and transparent way to surrender their guns and provide authorities with more tools to seize illicit weapons".
