New report on US-Mexico firearms trafficking

An estimated 4,976 firearms were trafficked from the USA to Mexico in 2009, according to a new report by the Mexico Institute at the Woodrow Wilson Center and the Trans-Border Institute at the University of San Diego. The report includes an investigation into the types of firearms used by drug cartels and the main methods used to traffic these weapons into Mexico. It acknowledges both the US and Mexican governments are working in unprecedented ways to address US firearms trafficking to Mexico, and makes recommendations to improve efforts.
