UN Programme of Action (PoA)

The 2001 Programme of Action on small arms was adopted by the UN General Assembly after negotiations at the 2001 UN Conference on Small Arms. It is a non-binding agreement covering many aspects of gun violence prevention, though not in great detail. Countries agreed to report on implementation, and to establish national coordination mechanisms (National Commissions or NatComs) to review and strengthen legislation, procedures and international cooperation.
