KANSA: Addressing Armed Violence through Arms Reduction in Kenya

On 2 February, the Kenya Action Network on Small Arms (KANSA) held a consultative meeting to review the situation of small arms proliferation in Kenya and legal frameworks to manage and control it<--break-->, as the Government of Kenya prepares to mark the 11th anniversary of the mark the 11th anniversary of the Nairobi Declaration on 15 March. The participants concluded the meeting with a press release, written with the support of Saferworld, summarising their observations and recommendations for the government, including a call for it to “Fully commit to and implement the Nairobi Declaration and the Nairobi Protocol with specific reference to the ‘Best Practice Guidelines’ tool, [and] the United Nations Programme of Action on Illicit Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects (UNPOA)”.
